All’s Well that’s Ed Blackwell.

All that’s well that’s Blackwell is a tribute to masterful drummer Ed Blackwell! It’s a drum solo that I wrote that was inspired by Ed Blackwell’s drumming!

Recently, I heard a song that he played on called “Dakar dance” played by Karl Berger, Dave Holland and Ed Blackwell! Dakar dance has a driving African rhythm but also at the same time was very melodic on the drums! I wanted to incorporate melodic element into my playing as well so I wrote this piece called “ All that’s Well that’s Ed Blackwell”.

In my piece it’s more of a driving triplet motif where the hi hat changes while the Tom Tom’s create a trancelike vibe

This video was created at a recent gig of mine at Rockwood music hall and performed by myself Greg Germann on drums as a prelude to my song Bli-Fi

Performed live at Rockwood music hall june 28th

Greg Germann is a musician who composes and plays drums in NYC!

"Greg Germann's new offering, Tales of Time, showcases his formidable talents as a player, composer, and arranger. The music blends layers of complexity with singable melodies. Greg's artistic vision shines through tying all of the tracks together, and proving that modern jazz, pop, swing, songwriting, and even film music can all coexist and create something beautiful, unique and long-lasting. With this new recording, Greg steps into the New York jazz scene with confidence and exuberance.”

Jeb Patton

(pianist for Jimmy Heath, Charles McPherson)

“Greg is one of my favorite drummers I’ve had in my band. He has a driving percolating groove that’s all his own. He responds and interacts with what he’s hearing and that is one of my favorite qualities in a drummer”

Eric Person
